Alpha and Beta software refers to computer software that is undergoing testing and has not yet been officially released..
First Major Release to production.
Alpha - Just a try
Beta - Serious try with may be few trial customers
Pre-Prod Release V0.x to v0.99999 - Are all internal releases to make sure all is working.
Smaller app devs use just Beta and then V1 to ensure faster to market and then can make changes later.
Larger orgs use all the possible cycles to ensure better product.
V1.0 - 1st Client Facing Application release.
